02 · The company

Every client gets its own voice.

Mail Waves is a retention email agency for subscription ecommerce brands, most of them US supplement and wellness DTC.

The whole agency is Klaviyo-based retention and direct-response email. Clients stay for years, and every one is sold one-to-one copy: no house style, no template voice.

The kind of email you’ll be writing.

Real sends for Mail Waves clients. Each one started as a light brief: an offer, an ideal customer and a writer trusted to find the angle. The design came after the words.

04 · The part

You bring the angle. Then the pod builds.

You write direct-response email and SMS for five to seven DTC subscription brands, each of which needs to sound like itself.

More on the part

Copy is written first, then the designer builds off it, then the Klaviyo specialist sends it. The brief is light on purpose: you get the offer and the ideal customer, and you are trusted to find the hook.

You write with Claude. No landing pages and no client contact: the client success manager owns the client.

The first yearCraft first. Numbers after.
  1. Days 1 to 30

    Write live. Land the reader.

Live client copy within days. Copy that lands the ideal customer on the first or second pass, and notes applied with a stronger version back inside a day or two.

  2. By day 90

    Carry the book.

You own the copy across five to seven accounts, switch voice cleanly, and bring the angle from a light brief. The designer and the specialist are never left waiting.

  3. First year

    Become the engine.

Trusted to ship most work without review, at the top of the band, with email revenue and engagement lifting across your book.

05 · What the seat offers

Reviewed by someone who can actually read.

  1. You bring the angleThe offer and the customer come to you. The concept comes from you.
  2. A founder who readsReview from a founder who wrote direct response himself, plus first-pass notes from a senior copywriter. Close at the start, stepping back fast as trust builds.
  3. Paid-for mentorshipThe founder invests in his writers’ craft, including paying for outside mentorship.
  4. AI-first, openlyThe team writes with Claude. Your workflow is an asset here, not something to hide.
  5. RangeSupplements, wellness and subscription DTC. You never write the same email twice.
  6. A stated progressionYou start at the bottom of the band and rise to the top as your speed and your book prove out, on the same twenty hours.
06 · Cue sheet

What gets you a reply.

Four gates. Portfolios open the door, but the decision is made on how you write and how you take a note.

  1. Gate 01

    English for a US reader

Strong written English with real command of US consumer vocabulary. C1 or C2 is fine; native is not required.

  2. Gate 02

    Direct-response receipts

DTC or ecommerce copy with revenue you can point to. Not theory, not info-products, not logos without the copy.

  3. Gate 03

    Years on copy itself

Two to three or more, not spread across design, copy and Klaviyo.

  4. Gate 04

    A real AI workflow

Ideally on Claude, and you can walk us through it step by step.

Nice to have: supplement and wellness brands, SMS depth alongside email, a named craft lineage, subscription and retention mechanics, Klaviyo familiarity.

PS, Shannon

Don’t tell us you’re passionate. Tell us what you did, what broke and what you’d do differently. That’s the application a founder remembers, and it’s the one I’ll pick up the phone for.
